Opera and Ballet in Mongolia
Nowadays Mongolian classical art same level of world. And some world’s best ballet dancers and opera singers are Mongolian.
Ballet:
In 1950, hundreds of Mongolians went to the Soviet Union to learn classical arts and many Soviets came to Mongolia to help the country set up theaters and conservatories. Mongolian first Ballet debuted in 1953, named “Our union”. In 1956, “the Fountain of Bakhchisaray” by Boris Asafiev, in 1958 “Shurale” by Yarullin.F was the beginning of the classical ballet and it showed our dancer’s skills are grown. In 1958, the first-length national ballet was created. In 1975, the world famous ballets, such as “Swan Lake”, “Giselle” etc, were began to play.
Opera:
Mongolian first Opera was named “Saran Khukhuu”. But it’s quite different from modern opera. Mongolian modern opera started after people’s revolution in 1921. From 1921 to 1930, Mongolian opera was based from Chinese opera. In 1930, Soviet Union’s specialists came from Mongolia for help to improve our classical art. It was become an important step to developed Mongolian opera. The first modern opera “Uchirtai 3n Tolgoi” by D.Natsagdorj was tragedy and it played in 1934. After 1963, our opera singers started to play World classical opera. Such as Eugene Onegin, Cio-Cio San (Madame Butterfly), Faust etc.
